As you may know I am currently on maternity leave after the birth of my beautiful baby boy. I just wanted to take this moment to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I am excited to design again in 2018, my head is exploding with new ideas. For now, here is a Christmas monster I created in 2016. Happy Holidays everyone!
When I had my daughter 3 years ago I muttered the words 'I am never doing that again' but here I am, expecting a beautiful baby boy, the final edition to our family. I want to take a few weeks to prepare for the baby and have a well needed rest, so this post has been forward dated. He could already be here.......I will announce the birth on my Instagram account.
I am excited to take maternity leave and adjust to life with a new baby and very active toddler. I've set no expectation about when to return to the design world but rest assured I will be back. I already have a million new and exciting ideas in the back of my 2018 diary. All of my digital design shops will remain open and I am available to offer support at any time, and when I say any time, yup I will probably be awake at 3am. #lifewithanewborn
So for now I would just like to thank all the people who have purchased my work, read my blog, offered support and given me a chance over the past 2 years. I feel very lucky to be in the position I am in right now, happy and content with work and life.
Great news, a free colouring book page for all my readers.
This piece has been created using the 'Panda Party' clipart set, available here.
I am happy for this colouring page to be used for personal use, as a teaching resource, a fun activity for children and classes and all craft projects. I only ask that it is not used for profit.
Enjoy colouring and I would love to see your creations, feel free to tag SarahPurpleDesigns on instagram.
This bundle will be available to purchase until the 19th July.
Creating these cut files has been a great learning experience for me. Rather than starting with a small idea and letting my mind explore, I had to be very focused on the end goal. Making sure each element of the design was compatible with the capabilities of craft cutting machines. Below is a selection of my designs that have been included in the bundle. All of these designs are available to purchase separatly at thehungryjpeg.com.
As a pattern designer I find geometric patterns to be one of my strengths. I love being able to turn simple shapes into beautiful pieces of art. I wanted to create a collection of patterns that are not only simplistic but also imperfect and unusual. This is how the collection GeoGeo began.
These square and triangle shapes began as hand ripped pieces of newspaper that have been scanned and edited to create rough and torn vector shapes. I then created a vector fill using one of my own brush stroke outlines. This fill was added to the shapes to create a vibrant texture with interest and small detail.
When I created this website last year I fully intended on twice monthly blog posts, however a house move and pregnancy had taken priority. I am now 20 weeks pregnant and finally feeling fantastic. I have lots of new work to upload and can't wait to share it on my website and blog. Starting with this mosaic inspired pattern collection which is available to purchase on creativemarket.
These patterns all started as hand drawn sketches, they have been reflected to create a tiled mosaic collection.
I now have a recipe illustration on 'They Draw & Cook' This website is fantastic for a whole range of illustrated recipes. Perfect if your looking for some new Christmas treats to try. You can view online and they also have recipe books available. The perfect gift for your arty friend.
While searching through the loft last week I found some beautiful lace and paper doilies. They had such amazing intricate details and looked beautifully dainty. Lace is a hot trend for 2017, so I decided to create a set of seamless patterns. I've already added these patterns to my digital shop and I've had a great response. The set contains 18 patterns and 3 blank greetings cards.
I love being self employed and going with the creative direction that inspires me, but from time to time I have designers block. My good friend Kate at Marmalademoon made me aware of a portfolio building course called Folio Focus. I thought it would be a brilliant idea to keep me on track.
I decided to join in the fun and for the next 10 weeks I have a new topic each week to inspire me to create beautiful new work that is interesting and on trend. The first week combined fancy florals with geometric designs. The class provides multiple sources of inspiration including colour ideas, pinterest boards and trend related images.
I have been uploading illustration and pattern sets to the SarahPurpleDesigns digital shops for over a year now and I feel a change is in the air. I believe it is refreshing to try something new and decided to create a collection of coordinating geometric brushes for use on adobe illustrator. This is the first part of the ‘Brushes Collection’ that I plan to design and release. I have used clean, bold geometric shapes to create these intricate effects on illustrator brushes. These brushes can be added to strokes, resized and coloured to create beautiful detailed looking designs in minutes.
The brushes are available to buy now and include:
- 50 Geometric Brushes – Original vector brushes available as Ai/EPS CS3+
- 50 Geometric Borders in a variety or colours 12″ wide 300dpi PNG
- 3 Seamless Patterns – 12×12″ 300dpi JPEG
- 3 Intricate Design Elements
- Instructions on how to install the brushes in Illustrator
The brushes have been created as a tool for crafters and designers alike to use on future personal and commercial products. I have used them to create the circle mandala designs and patterns included in this collection.
I am planning on creating similar sets in the future based around other themes such as ‘tribal’ ‘hand drawn’ and ‘floral’. Please contact me if you have any suggestions, I am always eager to hear what my subscribers and customers want to see in future SPD projects.
When I was asked by TheHungryJpeg to collaborate on a upcoming bundle I was over the moon. Being a self employed designer can be difficult at times, you rely on your own judgement and don't get critique on your work. Being recognised by a website as HUGE as Hungry gave me a big confidence boost, reassurance that I am moving in the right direction. If you are unaware of this website then I suggest you take a look. They offer fantastic products, jam packed bundles and some amazing free fonts. Their staff are extremely friendly and helpful, a brilliant site for buying and selling alike.
The bundle is available to buy until 6th October. It is pretty amazing to see all my work in one collection like this. It highlights to me how far I have come over the past year and helps me identify my own style and identity. If you have already purchased or any of my other work, I'd love to see your creations. Be sure to share with me over social media or email me.
